  • This is m13 taken with the ST80, ok, it has flaws, but for the standard of scope the ST80 is i think it illustrates just what you can do with it. This was with the .5 focal reducer fitted as i wanted as wide a field shot as I could obtain. [Philips SPC 900NC PC Camera (LX Mode)] Resolution=640x480 Frame Rate (fps)=5.00 Colour Space ...
  • If so, the instead of using the extension tube, use a Field Flattener in its place. It will have the same 2 inch noise-piece interface for the scope and same t-thread interface towards the camera. The T-ring will be a separate purchase. Exactly which field flattener to use depends on the scope.
EvoFF – Field Flattener for SkyWatcher EvoGuide 50ED The EvoFF field flattener for the SkyWatcher EvoGuide 50ED produces pinpoint stars over a large field of view, making the EvoGuide 50ED a perfect portable wide-field imaging telescope. The EvoFF also works on other small refractors with focal lengths in the 250-450mm range.
Engineered with a high quality 4-element design and offering a generous 52° apparent field of view, and Eye relief of 18mm.
I'm hoping that the Orion ED102 F7 proves good for photography so the combination with an HEQ5 Skyscan will prove fairly lightweight and cost effective combo at around $2500 all up. Otherwise a well baffled 6" F6 Newt would probably be superior, not needing a coma correcter /field flattener.
If I want the 6.6 degree field that comes with an ST-80 and the 41mm Panoptic, I accept that field curvature is going to be part of it. But recently I bought a TSFLAT 2 which is a field flattener that can be used visually. Whether it works with the ST-80, I don't know, but I will give it a try.

A high-quality, non-focal-reducing Field Flattener optimised for DSLR imaging on refractor telescopes with focal ratios around f/5.5 to f6.0. Will also provide much improved results on refractors with focal lengths narrowly outside this optimised f/range. A good match for the Skywatcher Equinox-80 and similar. Integral T-Ring adaptor thread.
There are numerous areas of application for industrial monitors and thin clients: whether as a desktop device for maintenance, as a built-in unit for control consoles, or as a PC-based visualization and control solution requiring a spatially separated setup of the operator panel and the industrial PC or server. • FIELD FLATTENER: Optional. SFFX-1. Flat field with field flattener: 43 mm. The fully illuminated Image Circle with 2.5" focuser is less than 43 mm since this telescope uses a 2.5" focuser. This can be compensated for by taking flats. If you want a true full-frame 80 mm, a 3" focuser is required.

The Moonlite I got is Gold so should look nice on the scope. Shipped today so I should get it by Tues. It has a 4.5 draw tube with 68mm thread on end. I ordered the Tak 68 to 72mm adapter so I will be able to screw the Field flattener on to the tube and then screw the QSI690 to the ff end. Should eliminate any flexure problems.

To get a flat field out-of-the-box, you have to start out with a flat field, like a Petzval. In my case, the TSFlat2 makes sense even for an ST80 because I have several other refractors I can use the field flattener in as well. As we close out 2008, I wanted to share a scene I came across today that gives me hope for the future. Trudy, Ian and I went to the local outlet mall so I could pick up a couple of pairs of new jeans, and while we there we went into the KB Toys to check out their going out of business sale.

A typical plot of dose and angle is here first on the right. It shows the typical forward peaked beam where the dose is highest in the direction the electrons were travelling before they were stopped in the target.
